Functions of Union Parishad
Obligatory functions:

1. To maintain law and order and assist the administration in this regard;

2. Taking various steps to curb crime, disorder and smuggling;

3. To take and implement development projects for the economic and social development of the people, such as agriculture, forestry, plantation, fisheries and livestock resources communication system.
4. Expanding family planning activities;

5. Ensuring the development and utilization of local resource mobilization;

6. To preserve and empower the people;

7. To review the development activities of all the organizations at the union level and make recommendations to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer;

8. Registration of births, deaths, marriages, blind, bereaved and destitute;
9. Conduct all kinds of censuses;

    General functions

1. Arranging and arranging roads;

2. Lighting of roads, ghats and public places;

3. Planting and storage of trees in general and planting and storage of trees in public places along special roads;
4. Graveyard and cremation ground etc.

5. Arranging and accommodating tourists;

6. Control criminal and hazardous business;

7. To remove and control the carcass of a dead animal;

8. Control animal slaughter;

9. Organizing fairs and exhibitions;

10. Organizing public festivals;
11. Helping widows, orphans, the poor and needy;

12. Improve sports;

13. To take measures for extra food production;

14. Work on environmental management;
